Dogs make everything better, right? That includes movies! Take a trip down memory lane with our top 10 movie dogs.
Marley (Marley & Me)
Marley was actually played by 18 different dogs
Beethoven
Beethoven’s real name was Chris!
Lassie
The original Lassie was actually a boy called Pal! He was initially rejected for being a boy but then impressed the directors so much that they gave him the role anyway!
Napoleon
52 ‘Napoleons’ had to be used during the course of filming because each could only be used for around three weeks before it grew too big.
Red Dog
Koko, who played Red Dog, was originally a show dog. He learned over 50 commands for the film
Chance & Shadow (Homeward Bound)
Homeward Bound was one of the rare talking animal movies where the animals’ mouths don’t move in time with their lines
Buster (Bruce Almighty)
At various points, Carrey stood in for Buster by delivering off-screen barks to Jennifer Aniston.
Milo (The Mask)
Milo was played by Max. It was his first film role and he wasn’t always perfectly cooperative, giving Jim Carrey plenty of opportunity to ad-lib as Max missed cues or didn’t perform as expected!
Baxter (Anchorman)
Baxter was played by Peanut, a rescue dog who had a sad start in life. After being rescued by a Hollywood dog trainer, he appeared in shows at Universal Studios and movies.
Toto (Wizard of Oz)
Toto’s real name was Terry and she (yes, Toto’s really a girl!) appeared in 16 films, although the Wizard of Oz was the only one she received credit for!
