We’re on a mission…to shrink our paw-print 🐾
Climate change affects us all, and it’s a global issue that every one of us needs to address.
Over the last six months, our ‘Green Team’ – sustainability champions with our business – have been working behind the scenes to establish more sustainable products & processes across our family of brands.
In honour of Earth Day (22nd April), here are a few updates of what we’ve achieved so far:
As at December 2022:
+ Here are the projects we’re supporting:
- Cool Fire Traditional Land Management, Australia
- Siam Cement Biomass, Thailand
- Efficient cookstoves, Nepal
- Darajat Geothermal, Indonesia
- Coorong Lakes Biodiversity Conservation, Australia
- Katingan Peatlands Conservation, Indonesia
An update on our progress, as at April 2023:
Our goal was to replace three of our largest sources of single-use plastic with a biodegradable alternative, including: Mailing satchels, packing tape, and pallet wrap.
What we achieved:
All three items have been replaced with a biodegradable alternative. When buried in landfill (or the garden) these products will naturally break down.
What it means for our footprint:
This is a significant improvement to our cause, decreasing our carbon footprint as the packaging tape and satchels are carbon neutral.
More than the carbon footprint however, it’s also a way for us to decrease the amount of plastic we use – doing what we can to remove micro-plastic from our environment.
What’s next?
While our pallet wrap solution is better than before, it’s not perfect. We’re collaborating with a company to create an alternative made from plastic extracted from the ocean.
We’re also looking to remove more items from our single-use plastic audit.
And, without compromising on quality and safety, we’re reviewing how we can optimise our production & manufacturing as a bigger picture initiative.
