When most people hear “dogs at the airport”, they think of substance-detecting police K9s. Over the Christmas and New Year period, Qantas and Mad Paws joined forces to challenge this image. With December and January serving as Sydney Domestic Airport’s busiest months, Qantas wanted to put travelers at their ease. That’s why they invited Mad Paws to bring a host of dogs to their terminal for nearly 30 furry events.
It wasn’t the first series of events we’ve run with Qantas, but it was surely the biggest. For four mornings a week across two months, Mad Paws Pet Sitters roamed the airport with their furry friends in tow. From flying families to festival-goers, from police officers to pilots, our pooches made friends all across the terminal.
Thanks for hosting us, Qantas. Our dogs loved becoming honourary airport staff!
Some of the dogs we took to the terminal are already thinking of careers in flight attendance. We tried to tell them they’re too short, but they said: “Aroo?”
Other pooches preferred the life of luxury, and focused on charming their way into the business lounge. As a bonus, they made some new friends while there!
“I want to be a police dog! Don’t you think I’d make a great police dog? *I* think I’d make a great police dog!”
These furry friends believe they have what it takes to become airline pilots. A few minutes of conversation with a couple of Qantas’ finest only strengthened their resolve.
Who are the REAL angels? We’ll let you be the judge!
This final image is what our airport events were about: introducing our dogs to travelers of all types. Traveling during the holidays is always exhilarating, and we’re thrilled to have played a part in people’s journeys. Our dogs look paw-ward to returning to the airport soon!
