Join the Mad Paws team!
Mad Paws Pty Ltd (www.madpaws.com.au) is a VC-backed, Sydney-based tech startup. We are Australia’s largest marketplace for pet sitting and pet related services. We launched only 2 years ago and have been showing strong and accelerated growth, which we are very excited about. Our team is driven, capable and very hard working! We are young and hungry; enjoying every minute of this exciting adventure with a clear goal to win! YOU can be part of this exciting new chapter from the very beginning! Are you a winner? Are you driven by a passion for making an impact? Are you keen to learn?
Your Role
Are you looking for a real UX internship that gets you on the ground level of one of Sydney’s hottest (and furriest) technology startups? This is a rare once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, we’re going to be working on some amazing projects which will literally change the face of the global pet-tech landscape.
We don’t want too say much more but the projects span everything from user research for a potential Internet of Things device all the way to driving delight through animated interactions. If you’re making the switch to UX, don’t sign up for a 3 month course that’ll set you back thousands of dollars, instead, apply for this internship!
As a full stack UX design intern you will be tasked with both the execution of user research and implementation of our product designs (low-fidelity to high-fidelity). We are looking for either a graduate or an intern, part time or full time (to be negotiated).
Research
Facilitation – conduct usability tests, discovery workshops, without biasing the experiment results.
Prioritisation – work with the Product Manager to prioritise user stories and acceptance criteria through the lens of user centred design.
Competitor Research – don’t reinvent the wheel unless you really need to. What are the existing design patterns to solve X.
Implementation
Mapping – develop user flows, spar with the product team and identify edge-cases
Sketch – you should be able to build low-fidelity wireframes stat!
Interaction – build high-fidelity interactive prototypes.
UI – think deeply about the purpose and intention of UI elements, not just doing it because it’s “pretty”.
Sell – be able to present and communicate the rationale and value behind designs.
Ideal candidate
Communicator. You are a top-notch assertive, communicator. You love giving presentations, maybe you have done some public speaking.
T-Shaped Skillset. Your degree is not as important as your skillset. We want a T-shaped generalist who can sit across design, technology and business sections of the business.
Details Obsessed. You often find yourself look at a product/business model and ask 5 x Whys to figure out the intent behind it’s design.
Love Data. Not looking for an expert, but you need to show that you can use some functions in Excel and that you genuinely want to know more.
Intrinsically Motivated. You’re an expert at “googling something”. You prefer being given goals as opposed to tasks.
Prioritisation. You’re going to Mars, you have 5 objects to take with you, what would you take?!!
Pets. Duh. Woof! You have an affinity with pets; this will help you understand our users better who absolutely love pets;
Team Player. You are a great team player and have ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
